Thank you to all who
served on the Land of Lakes Choir Boys Task Force! The preparation in
hosting the Viking Choir at Bower Hill on June 15 took a lot of time and
energy from a number of people. The concert was a great success, thanks to
the many participants of the Task Force.
Throughout the summer,
we hope you will consider joining a ‘pick-up’ choir. On the following
Sundays, whoever wants to come and sing an anthem for Worship is welcome.
We will meet at 8:45 a.m. in the sanctuary and prepare an anthem to sing
during the Offertory. The dates for July and August are: July 11, July 18, August 1, August 15
The Pittsburgh Compline
Choir is a mixed voice, auditioned choir of approximately 25 members, that
exists for the purpose of singing and praying the monastic office of Compline.
The name Compline comes from the Latin word completorium or
completed, and is sometimes called Night Prayer or Prayer at the Close of
the Day. The Pittsburgh Compline Choir joins with members of the community at
Heinz Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh during the
Pitt school year for 40 minutes of music, prayer and silence to thank God for
the blessings of the day and pray for forgiveness, peace and rest.
On Monday, July 26, the
Pittsburgh Compline Choir will sing a service for the Association of Lutheran
Church Musicians Conference. This will be held at Trinity Cathedral, downtown,
at 8 p.m. This service will be conducted by our own Director of Music
Ministries, Jessica Baier, since the Director of the Choir, Dr. Alastair Stout,
will be out of town.
