September 2009 - Music Notes

Thank you to all who gave their talents during Summer Worship: Jean Miewald, Rev. Cal Wilson, Aaron Jones, Rick Jacobs, Gordon Mitchell, Lynne Wohleber, Glen Wissner, Ben Hohlfelder, Glenna Creaves-Karkaria, Joan Zakor, Margaret Zabo, and Dan Getkin.  Your time and energy to share your gifts was most appreciated!

The Bower Hill Ensembles are starting up again very soon! Rehearsals resume on Thursday, September 10th in the music room, beginning with Handbell Rehearsal at 6:00 p.m. and Chancel Choir at 7:30 p.m.

Both choirs are for adults, junior high and high school students.  The Handbell Choir rings in Worship approximately once a month, and will perform in the North Hills Handbell Festival in April of 2010.  The Chancel Choir sings in Worship every Sunday, and has an additional rehearsal on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m.

If you think you would like to join one of the choirs but are uncertain about making a commitment, please think about joining us for a trial period!

Kick-off Sunday services will be filled with joyous music!  Joing the service are handbell duo Bob and Bert Ericksen. Roberta is employed by City Music Center at Duquesne University, where she is business manager and teaches handbells.  She is also Director of Handbells at Oakmont Presbyterian Church and The United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington.  Bob is owner of Golf Augusta Pro Shops in Oakmont and rings with The JuBELLation Ringers at OPC.  When not ringing at their own church, they enjoy sharing their handbell music with congregations and organizations throughout western Pennsylvania.

Following Adult Education, the Fall 2009 Concert Series will kick-off with a lunch at 12 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, followed by an organ concert in the Sanctuary. Director of Music Ministries, Jessica Baier, will be performing works by Sweelinck, DuruflĂ©, Bach, and  more.

The 2009 Concert Series is being sponsored by the Friends of Music Committee. The Committee consists of members Debbie Boisvert, Bill Cadwell, Jean Miewald, Gordon Mitchell, Lynne Wohleber, George Vosburgh, and Staff Support Jessica Baier
