Boy Scouts - Troop 28
Our scout troop meets every Tuesday evening in Fellowship Hall. The unit recently renewed its charter with 35 boy members and 28 adult leaders. Boy Scouting is a program for boys aged 11 -17. Our troop is fortunate to have a number of youth who upon reaching age 18, continue to be a part of the program as assistant scoutmasters. They are numbered amoung the adult leaders along with parents and other adults who support the program with the time, talent and skills. Troop 28 has a weekend camp out or field trip each month and a weeklong camp at Greater Pittsbburgh Council’s Heritage Reservation in the mountains east of Uniontown. Weekend activities this year included rock climbing, canoe trips and backpacking. This year, a crew from Troop 28 also experienced a 14 day wilderness trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Cub Scouts - Pack 28
Serving boys age six through 10, Pack 28 recently renewed it’s charter with 53 boys and 15 adult leaders, all parents. Small groups called dens meet weekly in homes or at the church, and the entire Pack gets together monthly in Fellowship Hall. Pack 28 activities this year included the annual Blue and Gold Banquet, a Pinewood Derby in which hand-carved model cars are raced, family camping weekends and a three day, two night camping seesion at Greater Pittsburgh’s Heritage Reservation. Several parent-son teams also enjoyed the Council’s winter sports weekend at Heritage in January. DART/AIU
The DART program (Discovery, Assessment, Referral, Tracking) is housed in the Christian Education wing of our church. DART's main objectives are to discover children who may have a potential developmental delay, to provide in-depth assessment aimed at identifying a child's individual needs, and to recommend and provide appropriate early intervention services. During the 2001-2002 school year, almost 2000 children received services through DART. These services were provided in all areas of Allegheny County and outside the city of Pittsburgh.
