Mission - Sara Waller's Alaska Trip 2006
|
I was part of the YMA, Youth in Mission to Alaska program, which involves high school kids and adult advisors from the Pittsburgh Presbytery in mission work of the Presbyterian Church (USA). My trip visited 3 cities in Southeast Alaska. We explored Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka, including the beautiful Inner Passage. We were warmly hosted by the First Presbyterian Church in Sitka. We ran the Vacation Bible School there. Another part of our group did general work for an elderly couple at their home. We were all from different areas of Pittsburgh but everyone became close through our work. The Alaskan people taught us all to take nothing for granted, use every resource available, and that we’re all the same in God’s love. It’s a trip I will never forget and these warm people now draw me to revisit that area.
