Mission - Faith in Action 2009

On Sunday, October 4th , we held the second annual “Faith in Action” Day. Instead of having our regular worship service, our members went out into the community to demonstrate their faith.

The activities consisted of:
9:15 AM - 9:30 AM Gathering of Volunteers

9:30 AM to 12:00 PM Community Service Projects

Kitchen Kits for Light of Life Mission One of the many important programs at Light of Life is a ministry to previously addicted or abused homeless women. These women and their families are moved into an apartment and given a fresh start on life. We put together baskets with the items needed to get started.

Lunches for Light of Life We provided approximately 150 lunches for the residents of the Light of Life Mission (Kitchen). Our offerings included 150 sandwiches, tossed salad and special cut-out cookies.
Outdoor Cleanup at Hospice Buildings We performed outdoor work at the Family Hospice building located next door to the church.

12:00 PM to 1:15 PM Luncheon for all Volunteers

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Community Forums

Building Child Values - Elizabeth Wilson, Psychiatric Social Worker at Craig Institute, discussed parents' role in developing a value system to help children defend against bad choices in a tough world.
Energy Security - Rick Jacobs used his experience as manager of environmental projects at PPG Industries in a discussion of global energy, its sources, uses and impact on the planet.
Sustainable Gardening - Jeff Berga of Slippery Rock Greenhouse instructed families in the basic steps in creating a sustainable vegetable garden.
Creative Writing for Kids - Marian Brannan, an experienced writing instructor, led grade schoolers in creating a book based on descriptive words.

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM Spiritual Yoga - Instructor Janet Tant led all ability levels in spiritual yoga.
